Podus is a tech platform that enables victims of pre-trial detention connect to a PDSS lawyer nearest to his/her location. It is the “uber for justice” for pre-trial detainees because the tool allows remote access to lawyers. Podus is the enabling app for PDSS.
The highest demographic of Nigeria population are the youths and they face the highest numbers of injustices. However, most of the available access to justice programs are not user friendly or easy to use by these young people. Majority of these millennials visit social media or online platforms everyday spending 4hours 5mins (according to Hootsuite), however, one hardly come across an online platform through which they can have access to justice quickly and easily. We have been able to creatively develop access to justice programs to enforce human rights that meet 21st century needs of an average Nigerian youth.
If the banking sector, trade, motorcycle (Okada) can innovate and automate their process and approach to target audience, the way we provide legal aids and support needs to conform with the needs of the demand side- victims of pre-trial detention. However, this begs the question can a person who is indigent use an online platform? The answer is yes. Majority of the persons using this podus.ng are friends and families of detainees as you are aware detainees do not have access to their phones in detention.
